Domaine Pierre DAMOY

Pierre DAMOY has been responsible for this impressive estate since July 1992, when he took over for his uncle. Pierre found himself at the helm of what is indeed one of the jewels of the Côte d'Or: 25 acres of vines, 75% of which lie in 3 of the most esteemed Grands Crus in Burgundy. the Domaine owns 35% of the magnificent Chambertin-Clos de Bèze growth and 40% of Chapelle-Chambertin.

Viti/viniculture: With a diploma in general agriculture , Pierre possesses a studied understanding of the dynamics of the vineyard . He generally favors a manual approach, including ploughing, green harvesting and leaf thinning and uses no herbicides. Sprays and interventions are limited to a minimum and the integrity of the soil and the law of Nature are extremely important . The grapes are harvested by hand as late as possible to obtain maximum ripeness . Severe sorting of the fruit in the vineyard before and during the harvest and again at the winery . The stalks are removed but the grapes are not milled with a view to keeping the berries intact Prior to fermenting, grapes undergo a maceration of 6-7 and sometimes 10 to 15 days below 15°C ; fermentation lasts 10 -15 days in open vats, with caps punched down manually . The “grandes cuvees “ are matured in 70 to 100 % new oak including the Tamisot ; 30 à 50% for the rest in small Bertranges and Allier oak casks The wines remain on their original lees until bottling which generally takes place after 18 months but occasionally 21 even 36 months depending on vintage style under Pierre’s strict supervision without fining or filtering. Terroir is the watchword here
In 1997, the estate press-house was thoroughly modernized and there was a complete revamping in 2002 and none of the equipment is older than 5 years .
