Domaine BERNARD BONIN

Domaine BERNARD BONIN

Since 1998 , Geneviève BONIN née MICHELOT and her daughter Véronique have been running this Estate along with the latter’s husband , Nicolas BERNARD . They own and cultivate 7 hectares (17 1/2 acres) comprising vineyards in the white Burgundy appellations of Meursault , Meursault 1er Cru and Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru . The first vintage was 1999 and the intention is to follow time-honoured tradition and ensure the wines display the quintessential concentration of terroir . All the vines are old but it is difficult to give an average age since a number of plots are replanted every year while each “terroir” is vinified separately, respecting the "lieux-dits", the names of which appear on the labels.

When pressing the grapes , the gentlest pressure is used in order to obtain the purest but richest juice . Furthermore , throughout ageing in cask , each individual cask is sampled to determine precisely when the lees are to be stirred to attain an optimum exchange between the wine and its sediment . The wines are slowly imbued with heightened richness and only after 18 months will the wines be separated for the first time from the lees that suckled them . In addition , racking is synchronised with the lunar phases when the wine is naturally limpid and stable thus avoiding fining and filtration . The wine can therefore mature calmly and unhurriedly in bottle on the microsediment that will develop naturally .

Meursault Vielles Vignes (2010) less than 1 hectare 2 plots in Limosin & Sous la velle Average 60 years old
Meursault Tillets : 0,84 hectare 3 plots planted 1980s 1970 s & 1950 s A steep vineyard facing east-south-east , lying on shallow , pebbly white marlstone , it takes its time to ripen, finally offering great minerality. ; lime marmalade / flint on the nose ; rapier-like zinginess that showcases the stony suaveness of this wine.
Meursault Clos du Cromin : 0,76 hectares planted 1972 Originally a red wine terroir but Chardonnay adapts well . Facing south/ south west. Clay soil ; on the nose there is almost a malty tang ; the palate is compact and on the square side but always has a seamless texture.
Meursault 1er Crus
Meursault Charmes : 0,24 hectare 2 plots – old vines and 1 plantation in 1980s racy and distinguished nose ; rich and powerful with the grandeur of a Great Lord.
Meursault Genevrieres : Immense finesse against an opulent backdrop of ripe peaches , apricots and caramel enormous richness and weight ; peaches and cream finale .
Puligny Montrachet 1ers Crus
Puligny Montrachet Folatieres : A vast bouquet of flowers with a touch of spice (clove ?) ; suave and dense with lingering steely aftertaste .
Puligny Montrachet La Garenne : Open and expressive but in a minerally , wet stones context ; bold and beefy with mineral/limy flavour structure .
